Frequently asked questions

I'm a player

Do I need to have a Scala account to participate in a competition?

Yes, you do. You can create one after downloading the Scala app from the App Store or on Google Play (mobile devices only).

Can I use Scala on a web browser?

That isn't possible; please use Scala on your mobile device (i.e. smartphone or tablet). You can download the app from the App Store or on Google Play.

Can I create 2 accounts using 1 email address?

This isn’t possible. An alternative would be to create a second account with the same email address, but with ‘+1’ before the @ symbol. For example: Original email address for account 1: Email address for account 2: This way, you’ll be able to create a different account, but the emails for both accounts will be sent to the same email address.

Can I participate in the same competition multiple times (e.g. with different partners in 2 or more Doubles teams)?

You can only participate once in the same competition, i.e. in 1 Doubles team. You can play in multiple Doubles competitions if they're offered as seperate categories.

Doubles | My partner can no longer play. Can I change partners while the round is in progress?

Unfortunately, team partners can’t be switched out in an ongoing round. If you’re participating in a box league: You can play out the round with a new partner, carrying out the admin work on your end (e.g. planning matches, entering scores, etc). If you’re participating in a ladder: You can withdraw your original team, and sign up again with a new partner. You’ll then be (re-)entered into the ladder in the next round, and ranked on the basis of your average rating.

The competition was supposed to start on XX date, but I haven’t received an email with further information.

This sometimes happens if the organizer is waiting on the last few sign-ups or is still reviewing the box positioning; the competition will usually be started a few days later. Feel free to drop us a line at to double-check its status!

How can I change/remove my score?

Please contact us at to have your score corrected.

How do I withdraw myself from a competition?

If you’re participating in a box league: Please contact your box league manager or the Scala Sports Team ( with your competition in the subject title to be withdrawn from the competition. If you’re participating in a ladder: You can withdraw yourself by tapping the ‘Withdraw’ button in the competition's screen.

Ladders | I’ve signed up, but I don’t see myself on the ladder.

You’re most likely on the waiting list for the next round! When the new round is generated (every 2 weeks), you’ll be added into the ladder and appear then.

Ladders | What if I can’t agree on a date with my opponent within the 2-week timeframe? / What if one of us isn't available to play?

The match will be forfeited, and won’t count towards your standing(s) when the next round is generated. If you have to skip out for 1 or 2 weeks, you can set your opponents to '0' in the app. This means that you won't receive an opponent in the upcoming round and your position on the ladder will be preserved. However, please note tat you'll be removed from the ladder if you don't play three consecutive matches,

Doubles | How do I sign my team up?

  1. The player who's registering the pair taps the ‘Join’ button for the chosen competition;
  2. After confirming that you'd like to participate in the competition, tapping the button again will take you to a screen where you can select who you'd like to partner with;
  3. Once you've confirmed your partner, they'll will receive a notification in the app, and you'll both be sent an email closer to the start date with further information.

Ladders | Why don’t I have an opponent for this round?

There may be several reasons for this:

  • Sometimes there are an uneven number of players in the ladder; in this case, you'll be matched with an opponent in the next round.
  • You may have been removed from the ladder, and haven't signed up again.
  • The competition may be coming to an end, and the next round wasn’t generated due to scheduling conflicts.

Doubles | I'd like to participate in a Doubles competition, but I don't have a partner.

if you don’t have a partner, you can indicate that when registering for a competition and we'll (in most instances) ensure that you’re matched with someone!

Why can users see/connect with players who aren’t associated with their club?

Scala Sports is an open platform where all players are visible, similar to the LTA competition platform. Basic information (i.e. player profiles, matches, competitions) is visible, but personal details are inaccessible.

When is the deadline for players to sign up?

Box leagues: Players can register themselves up until the competition’s start date. Once the round has started, managers will have to manually add players who wish to participate. If a player wishes to partake in an ongoing round, they must be added into a specific box. Ladders: There isn’t a fixed deadline for ladder registration, as players can join the ladder on a rolling basis – they’ll be added into the following round, which is generated every two weeks.

Is there a way to remove the suggested match dates?

The suggested dates are automatically generated and cannot be turned off. However, the dates are flexible and players can reschedule their matches to a more convenient time by pressing the ‘Change’ button in the particular match card.

Do Doubles competitions allow any combination of gender (e.g. 2 men, 2 women, a mixed pair)?

Yes, they do! Category combinations are flexible, and can usually be adjusted to suit the club’s needs.

Can we create regional competitions with other clubs?

Yes, you can! Please contact us at to discuss this further.

Ladders | How does the ladder work?

The system that automates ladders is an active one, meaning it proactively matches players against the player higher/lower than them in the ladder. Players move up if they defeat an opponent who's higher-ranked than them. A new round starts every two weeks, so players can play their match at any point between them – and they can skip a round if they're injured/unavailable.

Ladders | How do I adjust player positions on the ladder?

The ladder automatically ranks players based on their rating; player positions cannot be determined manually.

Ladders | Can players challenge each other on the ladder?

No, they can’t, as the ladders use a proactive system to incentivise match playing. The system matches players with opponents directly above/below them in the ladder in order to keep the ladder active and ensure that matches are played.

When will the Elimination Draw feature be implemented?

Unfortunately we've had to push this back as we've had our plate full with other commitments. We’ll be sure to get the word out when the feature's live, though, so keep an eye out for that!

Can changes be made to competitions once they’ve started?

In most cases, yes. If you have a specific request, please in touch with us at

How do I get started with Scala?

Please reach out to us via this form to set something up; we'll get in touch to discuss things in more detail.

What do the blue and orange circles in a player's profile represent?

The circles display a user's padel (blue) and/or tennis (orange) rating.
